vlc video lan

vlc is, at least in my opinion, the best player for both video and audio.

somehow, film producers think that it’s funny to play with the volume level during a movie – eg. making dialogs really quiet, but all the action is around 200 percent higher, thus really loud. vlc introduces with version 2 dynamic range compression, how to set it is explained here. as a summarization:

  1. go to Tools - Effects and Filters - Tab Compressor
  2. set threshold to -20
  3. set ratio to 20:1
  4. set makeup gain to 12

some new features of version 2 are outlined in this post
